Notable Golf Clubs
Cantigny Golf Club
30 miles west of downtown Chicago sits Cantigny Golf Club. 27 holes of outstanding golf await those looking to test their abilities on one of Chicago’s top golf layouts. There are over 70 bunkers (one of which is shaped in the silhouette of Dick Tracy – check it out in the middle of the ninth fairway of the Lakeside Course!) and a dozen lakes placed throughout the 27 holes, providing a challenging and enjoyable experience. In 2007, Cantigny hosted the 82nd U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
The experience at Cantigny is special from the moment you head down the driveway to the grounds, which is side-lined by Catalpa trees, to the moment you reach the bag drop and greeted by the friendly staff. As you approach the clubhouse, you may notice some young people with caddy bibs on. Cantigny is well-known for their youth caddy program, a program that is one of the finest in the country and rarely seen in other public venues. Something else that sets Cantigny Golf apart from most other public-access courses is their commitment to youth play and instruction for all ages. A separate nine-hole course is reserved for juniors aged 8-15, complete with bunkers and water hazards.
Pine Meadow Golf Club
For the golfer looking for a great day of golf in a beautiful natural setting Pine Meadow Golf Course is a great choice. Located in Chicago‘s northern suburb of Mundelien, Pine Meadow Golf Course also features one of the top-ranked practice facilities in the state of Illinois.
Cog Hill Golf & Country Club
Cog Hill is situated less than 30 miles southwest of Chicago and features four 18-hole courses, one of which is a publicly accessible world-class course, the “Dubsdread Course.” Since 1964, when Dubsdread opened, the course has received national recognition and known for its many oak tree-lined fairways and its large, undulating greens. It consistently gets five stars from golf publications all over the world and has been on the list of the world's top 100 courses for decades. Each year since 1990, the club hosts the PGA Tour’s Motorola Western Open on the Dubsdread Course. The Western Open is thought to be the third oldest tournament in existence, just after the British Open and the US Open. The US Amateur has been played on Dubsdread's fairways. So come play where the pros play and challenge yourself.
